Dominic West’s wife reflects on ‘ups and downs’ in their marriage after Lily James scandal

Dominic West’s wife Catherine FitzGerald has commented on their marriage following her husband’s highly-publicised PDA photos with Lily James.

In a new interview with the Irish Independent, FitzGerald, 49, spoke of the “ups and downs” they have endured as a married couple. West made headlines when he was photographed looking affectionate with James on an Italy trip.

“We had a wonderful love affair. I had a tiny room on campus, and Dominic had a garret flat on the top floor of a building on Mountjoy Square,” she told the outlet of their “instant attraction” they shared at Trinity College Dublin.

“It was falling down but you could get out onto the roof and sit on the hot slates — it was a lovely summer that year — and we would look over Dublin, reading poetry to one another with the mountains in the distance.”

The couple went in different directions after college. In the early 2000s, they reconnected and got engaged in 2007.

“I sure as hell did it the hard way,” she said, “by then I was about 32 and I had decided to put everything into my work but falling in love was wonderful.”
