Hugh Grant hits back at claims he married wife Anna Eberstein for ‘passport reasons’

Hugh Grant is setting the record straight amid misinformation about the reason he married his wife, Anna Eberstein.

The Undoing star, 60, shared a Google search result via Twitter on Thursday, June 17 which claimed he married Eberstein for “passport reasons.”

“No I didn’t @Internet. I married her because I love her,” he tweeted in response.

When another user asked if he had Googled his wife’s name himself, Grant replied “No. A friend sent it to me.”

Grant is known for being notoriously private about his life away from the cameras. He tied the knot with Eberstein in an intimate ceremony in London in 2018 and welcomed their child, John Mungo, in September that year.

“I should have done it before. I’m just lucky. I’ve got a great wife. I love her,” he told the Today Show in the US in June 2018. “We’ve got three kids together, we live together.”

The article, from Nicki Swift, claims Grant married Eberstein “for practical reasons when travelling through airports with his partner and their children” and cites other outlets like USA Today, who have a direct quote from the Love Actually star.

“I didn’t like going through immigration into countries where they’d say, ‘Everyone with a Grant passport, over here, and all the others through there,'” Grant told USA Today in 2018. “She went through with the nannies. That seemed all wrong.”
