Kanye West reportedly slams Kim Kardashian in lyrics of new song, breaks down on stage at listening party
Kanye West is opening up about his divorce through the lyrics on his new album.
According to The Sun, the 44-year-old rapper broke down in tears on stage at his album’s listening party in Las Vegas after playing a song about his split from Kim Kardashian.
The new track, titled ‘Welcome To My Life’, features lyrics about his last two years, which detail his broken marriage, Twitter meltdown and his failed 2020 US presidential campaign.
“Tell the assassins I escaped from Calabasas,” the lyrics reportedly say. Calabasas is where he lived with Kardashian and their four kids, North, eight, Saint, five, Chicago, three, and Psalm, two.
“It’s a very deep, sad song about Kanye, with him reflecting on his marriage with Kim,” the source told The Sun. “He talks about the kids and mentions her taking everything. After he played this song he paused for like, two minutes, and cried. It was really somber.”
However, an insider told The Daily Mail West “doesn’t say anything negative” about his estranged wife or their family on his new album.
West’s reps are yet to confirm or make any comment on his lyrics.
Kardashian filed for divorce from West in January after almost seven years of marriage. West has since been linked to model Irina Shayk since June when the pair travelled to Villa La Coste in France to celebrate his 44th birthday.
There aren’t a lot of details yet about what will be the 10th studio album from West. Titled Donda, it’s named for his mother Donda West, who died in 2007 following cosmetic surgery, and is set to be released this Friday, July 23.
The rapper’s team announced on Monday that West will present a listening event for Donda at 8pm on Thursday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
His last album, Jesus Is King, was released in 2019.
