Michael Madsen speaks for first time about death of son Hudson: ‘I can’t grasp what happened’
Actor Michael Madsen expressed his “shock” at the untimely death of his son, Hudson, saying he’s trying to “make sense” of the tragedy.
Hudson, 26, died in Hawaii on January 23, with the medical examiner ruling it a suicide.
He was one of three children the Reservoir Dogs star shared with his wife of 26 years, DeAnna.
“I am in shock as my son, whom I just spoke with a few days ago, said he was happy — my last text from him was ‘I love you dad,'” the 64-year-old actor said in a statement to The Los Angeles Times.
“I didn’t see any signs of depression. It’s so tragic and sad. I’m just trying to make sense of everything and understand what happened.
“He had typical life challenges that people have with finances, but he wanted a family.
“He was looking towards his future, so it’s mind blowing. I just can’t grasp what happened.”
Hudson’s family confirmed his death on Tuesday in a statement which read: “We are heartbroken and overwhelmed with grief and pain at the loss of Hudson.
“His memory and light will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. We ask for privacy and respect during this difficult time.”
Hudson died on the island of Oahu, where he had been living with his wife Carlie since 2019.
His father — known for his roles in Kill Bill, The Hateful Eight and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood — has three other children from his previous relationships.
