Why Jamie Foxx’s daughter almost changed her last name: ‘I wanted to make my own name’
Daughter of Jamie Foxx, Corinne Foxx, has revealed she considered changing her last name while growing up, so she wouldn’t be connected to her father.
Speaking to TOGETHXR for their More Than a Name series, Foxx admitted she didn’t like her famous last name, because she wanted to make a name for herself.
“I did consider, honestly, changing my last name,” she admitted.
“But as I’ve gotten older I’ve, one, made peace with people are gonna think things about me that I have no control of, and two, I’m proud of my dad and I’m proud of who he is and I’m proud of the work he’s done.
She adds: “I’m proud of just the person that he is.”
Speaking about what it was like to grow up in connection to her Oscar-winning dad, Foxx said a lot of things felt like they came on a silver platter.
“I had a lot of people telling me, ‘You don’t have to go to college. You can just go straight into the entertainment world, doors will open for you. You could be making millions of dollars,'” she says.
“I didn’t want to just ride on my dad’s coattails. I wanted to, you know, make my own name, do things myself.”
Corinne is the daughter of Jamie Foxx and Connie Kline — the pair are now separated. Corinne says coming to terms with her last name made it easier to decide on projects she wanted to work on, and ideas she wanted to test.
This year, she executive produced Netflix series Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!, which stars her father.
On Instagram, Corinne described the project as her “diary come to life”, and a “dream to create.”
“Today is the day! Dad Stop Embarrassing Me is now streaming on @netflixisajoke ❤️.
“My diary come to life. It’s an absolutely dream come true to create, work and build with family. I wouldn’t want anyone else but @iamjamiefoxx by my side. Go stream and enjoy our show! It’s for you guys!” she wrote.
